My first baby, Dylan, was born in July, 2013 while I was living in Sydney, Australia -- about 8,000 miles from my hometown of Seattle, WA.  Despite an incredibly supportive husband and a six-week long visit from my parents, I suffered from postpartum depression.  It wasn’t until I was diagnosed with and treated for Hashimoto’s disease (thyroid dysfunction) that it became clear I was suffering from postpartum depression.  Thanks to quick intervention and counseling, I found new enjoyment in my role as a mother.

Just before Dylan was born, I received a care package from my dear friend, Joelle. The box included essentials I had never even heard of but regularly used.  I remember telling my mother’s group friends in Sydney that someone needed to create a new mom gift box that would help the mom, instead of another cute blanket or baby outfit.

Now, my children are out of infancy and I finally have the energy to realize my dream of creating this gift box. It is my dearest hope that it helps relieve some stress, maybe helps parents get a few extra zzzs, and prevents a bit of pain (or at least prevents an emergency run to a pharmacy).

Because it is a cause I believe is too often stigmatized and/or undiagnosed, I will be donating 10% of my profits to postpartum depression awareness and counseling assistance programs.

Thank you for choosing EMs Gift Boxes.
